Have you always wanted to start writing but never known how to begin? Have you been writing for a while but never know what to do with the words once they were on the page? Have you the urge to write but no idea how to find ideas? Have you ideas but no idea how to get them to work for you? Have you got pages stuffed into drawers at home and no clear sense of what to do with them?
Author Alice Kuipers offered a six-week series to an overflow class of new and emerging writers to give them guidance, feedback, and time to find their voice. Using exercises and group and individual critique, the sessions built on each other to help writers find new stories and improve the stories they already have. A guest writer attended the last session to give the class ideas about how to send their work out, with dos and don'ts for cover letters.
Alice is also a writer coach in the Coop’s coaching program. Learn more about her here.

Winter class 2010
Writing poetry, someone once said, is easy. You just open up a vein. Poetry won’t let you lie, either. And that in itself can be a scary thing. Don’t let that stop you! Join us in this writing workshop and you’ll never be scared of poetry again! In fact, you might just find out how much you love writing poems. Sort of like learning to swim, in a way. Once you have the basics it’s all just practice. Come dip your toes in the water with us for this one day poetry workshop. All you need is paper and pen.
Lynda Monahan has authored two collections of poetry, a slow dance in the flames in 1998 and what my body knows in 2003, both published by Coteau Books. She has had work published in a number of Canadian literary magazines, including Grain, Descant, Amethyst Review, Room of One’s Own, Event, Transition, Fiddlehead and Other Voices. Her work has appeared in the anthology "Testimonies". She has had several poetry sequences broadcast on CBC radio, including “Fire Stories” which was broadcast nationally. SCN television filmed readings of three poetry sequences for their Story Album program. She has recently completed a third manuscript titled red boots in the snow, which aired on the premiere of CBC radio’s SoundXchange. Lynda teaches creative writing classes at SIAST Woodland Campus in Prince Albert and facilitates writing workshops for groups of all ages.

Unfortunately we had to cancel this class due to insufficient registrations by the deadline. Doubly unfortunate, late registrations would have given us the necessary enrolment. Better luck next time!
